Trex was established in 1996 after the development of a new wood-alternative decking material made from reclaimed wood fiber and recycled plastic film.

Trex also redesigned the wiring and connection system. Plug-and-go connections, splitters, extension wires, transformers and lighting controls can be combined into one 24VDC system.
